Walking Over
the Brooklyn Bridge

by Liz Dowling

Columbus Day was a 50-degree perfect fall day, so my husband and I decided to take a long walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.

We took the train to Grand Central with the plan to walk over the bridge to Dumbo, Brooklyn and back to GC.  9 miles in total.

Our route was down Park Avenue to 4th street.  Lafayette to Cleveland Place to Centre Street and over the bridge.

We had to stop at clic, one of my favorite stores on Centre Street.

A quick coffee break at Maman next door before we hit the bridge.

The day could not be more gorgeous.  Not a cloud in the sky.

We realized as soon as we approached the bridge that many others had the same idea…

Our original plan was to eat at Atrium Dumbo but, it was so mobbed getting into Brooklyn, we turned around and headed back to Tribeca for a late lunch.

On the way into Manhattan, you can see the Freedom Tower and the Empire State Building from the bridge.

We wandered through lower Manhattan with the goal to have lunch somewhere fun.  We were both starving!

Had to stop in!  One can not have enough vintage posters, right Tim?

We landed at The Odeon at 2:30 ready for a good (big) lunch.

A few more miles to go after lunch.  Up through Washington Square Park, to 5th and then Grand Central.

They were filming a movie under the arch called, “The Only Living Boy in New York.”

No star sightings unfortunately.

By the time we got back on the train, my fitbit said we covered 8.75 miles.  Not bad!  Time to plot out our next Manhattan walk…
