Designer Book Launch

by Liz Dowling

My friend Missie invited me to go with her to a book launch party in Manhattan for her colleague, interior designer Maureen Footer.  Maureen wrote a stunning coffee table book called George Stacey and the Creation of American Chic (Rizzoli).  The launch party was held at the elegant Brunschwig & Fils showroom in the Decoration & Design building.

Maureen opened Maureen Footer Interior Design in 2005 after many years of working in decorative arts, interior architecture and furniture.  Her new book highlights the career of George Stacey, an interior decorator who shot to prominence in the 1930s and remained one of the most influential American designers for forty years.  His timeless designs introduced modern principles that defined a new “American Chic.”  Through extensive research, Maureen has become a Stacey expert, whose work she has long admired.

Mario Buatta, another powerhouse in the interior design industry, wrote the forward for Maureen’s new book and was at the event telling stories and signing books.  I had the pleasure of sitting with Mario for a bit as he told me stories about spending time with George Stacey in New York and Paris.  There was a long line of people waiting to talk to him, so I finally dragged myself away.

It was a fabulous party.  I loved meeting both Maureen and Mario, and left with my own signed copy.  Cannot wait to dive into the book and learn some new design tips.  Thanks for bringing me Missie!
