Beach Brain

by Liz Dowling

Ok, maybe I have been in the sun WAY too much this summer because I realized two days ago that I had nothing prepared this week for my blog.  Nothing.  Nada.  August coming to a close always makes me sad because it means my daughter goes back to college and I say goodbye to all of my summer friends.  So, I am going to leave you with a random group of summer photos and hope you understand that, after my 50th college trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond, I am a bit fried.  But I did (finally) remember to get the AA batteries!

I will miss EVERYTHING about Summer…but mostly the calm of the ocean waves and sand under my feet. All winter I think of my beach house – “Zimzala” The name refers to “free-spirited people who find peace with the sand between their toes.”

I will miss barefeet, summer tomatoes, fireflies, and my summer friends.

I’m going to miss my beach friends. I love that you can show up at the beach and chat or not chat (I usually chat) and there are no expectations – no hurt feelings over cocktail parties, kid competition, car envy, house envy – all the stuff that plagues the likes of Fairfield County. The ladies at the beach are my touchstones for what’s important – good friends, good laughs and a lot of good advice. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that we all think we are pretty fabulous – bad hair and all – but there is always next summer!

I like the purple speck drinking wine on the beach!

I will miss lazy Fire Island days–hanging on the deck–a margarita in hand. I will miss the moon shining on the ocean. I will miss reading by the pool. And, I will miss our Sunday pizza oven ritual.

Lovely pictures. I will miss the balmy summer night air, visiting with my darling family on Block Island, corn on the cob, fresh tomatoes, swimming and 4th of July fireworks.
