The Last Beach Barbecue
of the Season

by Liz Dowling

My version of a beach barbecue is pizza, whatever open wine we have in the fridge, a beach chair and maybe some kind of dessert. I always mean to bring a salad, but the sand situation is a big deterrent.

My friends decided to really elevate the beach barbecue concept recently, as a last summer hurrah for a local fundraiser. Notice I said “my friends” ~ not me!

An actual table & chairs, torches, a bar ~ what?

A tablecloth, real napkins, pretty blue glasses…

Flowers, candles and not-paper plates. The pressure!

Actual hors d’ oeuvres on a serving table.

The meal was fancy too….

The brains behind this madness!

A beach bonfire was added to the mix for evening ambiance and s’mores.

How pretty is this after the sun sets?

Yes, this did (slightly) motivate me to up my beach barbecue game.

At least I have until next summer to organize my new strategy. Maybe some Chinet napkins will make the cut. Still on the fence about that sandy salad…

But this beach barbecue was truly one of a kind!
I hope everyone has a very Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Next time you can be our guest! Was fun to host and a win-win as we raised money for the BLock Island Medical Center. We did miss the sandy pizza though!!
