Kips Bay
Decorator Show House

What better way to spend a hot, muggy NYC morning than popping into the Arthur Sachs Mansion to see the 2015 Kips Bay Show House?  I made it just in the nick of time, two days before it closed on June 11th.  Glorious designers and a landmark mansion = heaven in the city.

The mansion is stunning, as are all of the 25 rooms decorated by a wide variety of talent.

This year the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club celebrates 100 years of helping children.  With the support of this beautiful show house, Kips Bay can continue to build futures for more than 10,000 children.  Bravo!

ICFF is the International Contemporary Furniture Fair that is held at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC every spring.

It features what’s next in contemporary design, luxury interiors and high end furniture.

Amazing styles by international furniture brands and emerging new talent highlight unique furnishings, seating, wall covering, lighting, accessories, outdoor furniture and more.

Architects, interior designers and developers can find custom designs and concepts here that they cannot find anywhere else.

ICFF Talks is a series of free presentations featuring panels of industry leaders discussing, new introductions, materials and trends in the interior design world.  Chef Daniel Boulud and designer Jeffrey Beers talked about their long collaboration that resulted in restaurants including db Moderne and db Brasserie.  How cool is that?

ICFF Studio is a forum where emerging designers compete with peers by submitting market ready, producible concepts with the goal of being chosen as one of the finalists that will be profiled to 32,000 professionals attending ICFF.

It’s inspirational to walk through ICFF Studio and see all of the incredibly creative pieces by these new designers.

ICFF also convenes the industry’s top editors and invites them to scout the floor of the Javits Center to choose the best of the best of the year’s design crop.  That would be a hard job…

The show opened on Saturday, May 16th and ran through May 19th.  I wandered over (finally) on Monday and wished I had gone a lot earlier.  So much to see.

There is a big launch party the night before ICFF opens that I missed because I was laser focused on seeing the opening of “Pitch Perfect 2.”  And the launch party was at MOMA….  I don’t think I will be doing THAT again!

I got there first thing Monday morning and managed to cover the two expansive floors of the show.

More than 24 countries are represented at ICFF.

There is so much to see, I didn’t know where to look!  I left with a big stack of business cards.

NYC Gift Show

The Gift Show was this week in New York.  Snow decided to mess things up for everyone Monday, but I was there with bells on Tuesday morning.

I wore my cute black boots so I would look “good” at the gift show.  I clearly had amnesia about the amount of WALKING I did there last year, up and down the aisles.  Plus, the ankle deep puddles I was jumping over were clearly more suited for my Sorel Boots…

I met my college roommate in the Javits lobby.  There should be a reality show about how long somebody can last at the gift show, because if there was, Ivy would win!  She gets there early and leaves at 6pm every day.  Impressive.

I cannot believe she can browse for that long.  Usually after thirty minutes, I am making friends with people in different booths so I can sit in one of their chairs and take a break.

Lots of color this year.  In fabrics, rugs, bedding and accessories.

I saw Blake Lively as I was limping through the home section.  I heard a recognizable voice and turned to see her ~ stunning in black leggings, chic sneakers (she was smart!) and a killer dark green Chanel tote.

So much to see!  I took notes like crazy.

I was nearing my gift show expiration date.  I ran into a few other college friends (see, glad I wore the nice black boots) and a few work colleagues.  I was eyeballing the taxi situation out of the corner of my eye, so it was time to go.

I am starting basic training for next year.  The goal is to last one whole day, from the time Ivy arrives until the time she leaves.

P1060290  P1060283
My definition of a “whole day” is having frequent coffee breaks, lunch and testing out (sitting on) a lot of furniture at the same time.

And then relax and maybe leave a little early…..

My cohorts in crime, casing out the event (above).  It was a fabulous way to spend a Sunday in the city.  A gorgeous late summer day, but I walked round-trip from Grand Central to the Jacob Javits Center so I wouldn’t feel too guilty about being inside at the Accessories Show.  My only regret is that I didn’t buy the white sunglasses for next summer…
