Summer Fabric Redux

P1040310

I am amazed that the first week of August is over.  Soon I will be drowning in college shopping and begging the nurse at the pediatrician’s office to let my youngest in for her annual back-to-school physical that I forgot to schedule.

I did do a few constructive things this summer.  In my Summer Fabrics post this June (see here), I found some bright and beachy fabrics that I loved and used ~

P1040315

I recovered two x-stools from Target, in my FAVE Stoheim “Canton” coral and blue fabric.

And made a beach bathroom curtain out of it too.

P1040225

I have been in a huge orange phase.  Using it everywhere!

P1040236 P1030790

I made pillows in an orange Duralee stripe and recovered chairs in a Jonathan Adler orange solid.

I spruced up old parsons chairs with an orange ultra suede, then backed them with a Duralee print.

I added new pillows to a Fire Island home in a Robert Allen bathing suit pattern and an orange chevron stripe.

P1040202

A navy crab fabric with…

a wide yellow and white stripe…

became eight new pillows for a beach cottage.

P1040213

Love pink.

P1030122

I recovered two slipper chairs with this Kravet pink paisley,

P1030153

and used a pink geometric on two x-stools for additional seating in a living room.

P1040198

This blue and white textured chevron stripe

looks adorable on the back of two couches.

P1040181

A cream herringbone solid became

the perfect roman shade with a beautiful Samuels & Sons turquoise ribbon trim.

P1040232

A beachy Lily Pulitzer floral (right) and a Thom Filicia dot pattern were PERFECT for

P1030223

new pillows in a cozy blue and orange office.

The rest of August = relax.

Hello Office

IMG_1872

Contractor gone.  Punch list finished.  Our old screen porch is now an office.  It’s time for me to focus on decorating the interior.  We figured out the desk while the office was being constructed.  A 10′ long x 24″ wide space where my husband and I can both work.  We also had the contractor build a shallow bookcase unit to fill a weird space on the other side of our chimney.  This would hold the TV and any other books and office stuff we had.

The new office is right off the living room, so I wanted to be mindful of the color scheme in the room so it wouldn’t clash.  A painting by a Block Island artist was the inspiration for the room colors I would use: blue and orange.

I found three fabrics I liked for pillows: a Lilly Pulitzer blue floral, an orange Duralee Pavilion geometric (that I also used on the back of the two desk chairs) and a Thom Filicia blue and white dot pattern.

As far as furniture for the sitting area, that was decided a while ago.  I recovered my old 1992 living room furniture (AGAIN!) in a basic Calico Corners blue cotton duck with white piping that I got on sale for $12.00 a yard.

This fabulous orange Madeline Weinrib rug finished things off beautifully and helped define the sitting room from the desk area.  We painted the office the same colors as the living room, Farrow and Ball “Tallow” with “Pointing” trim, so the flow would work between the two rooms.  You can see the office (below) from the living room.  We have a little pocket door that can be closed for privacy.  Our old screen porch is no longer wasted space.  We love our new office and now have a place to hide out!
