Spring cleaning this year involved a few unscheduled projects.
Our downstairs powder room has needed a tweak for a while. Â It was too dark (I went through a black bathroom phase). Â I hated the “greek column” toilet and sink we inherited from the prior owners.
I was tired of the maps on the wall, the whole thing. Â DONE!
The project was inspired by a wallpaper I found during a search for another client. Â I fell in love with “Tree Circles” by Scion in a color called Pimento & Champagne.
First step, prime the black walls to get ready for the wallpaper.
I painted all of the trim, beadboard and ceiling Farrow & Ball “Pointing” to match the Champagne hue in the wallpaper.
Painting done. Â Already the room looks bigger! Â New toilet and pedestal sink install next.
Out with the greek columns.  I wanted clean and modern in here.  I went with a simple Toto toilet.  The Entrada model is a small scale toilet that will free up space in the powder room.  I chose the Kohler Archer pedestal sink.  A square shape with a big lip for hand wash, lotion, a candle etc.
I switched out the sink faucet and handles too, putting in the modern Kohler Purist model.
Â
Old faucet (left) vs. new.
John, my amazing wallpaper guy, installing. Â One wall up and I already love it!
John is so good, you can go around the room and never find the wallpaper seams. Â A true craftsman.
I replaced the maps with one French Perrier poster. Â It brings some other colors into the room, but still works with the wallpaper.
Â
Maps (left) vs. new poster. Â More fun now!
A new towel bar and toilet paper holder, also in the Kohler Purist model, completes the room.
Â
The update was pretty easy and not very expensive. Â I kept the sconces, mirror and window shade that were there before. Â They work well with the new decor. Â The room feels a lot bigger and brighter now!
