new year and resolutions

by Liz Dowling

I woke up in 2019 in one of my favorite places with some of my favorite people.  I can’t think of better karma to start the New Year!

The topic of resolutions came up and we went around the table to reveal what we were all thinking for 2019.  I am horrible at resolutions.  Typically, mine are huge and sweeping.  Another words, completely unattainable.

This year, I have two resolutions.  The first one is to write down (in an old-fashioned journal, not on my phone) three things I am grateful for each day.  If I forget for a day or more, not to throw my hands in the air and abandon the resolution completely, which is what I usually do.

The second category is bigger….. I want to get a job AND completely clean out the attic/basement/garage.  I am already exhausted thinking about this.  BUT, here is the strategy ~

I’m going to spend a dedicated 5 hours a week on one or the other.  Doesn’t matter how I divide the time, as long as I have logged in a total of 5 focused hours on these two projects.

I watched one episode of Tidying up with Marie Kondo on Netflix and she motivated me to get going.  She advises viewers to dump everything they want to organize into the middle of the room and attack it that way.  Sadly, our attic already looks like I dumped everything into the middle of the room without the second part….

Maybe I will hire TaskRabbit now and dedicate all of my time to finding a job!

Ok, enough of resolutions.  Back to our trip.  We went to our favorite island of Nevis to celebrate New Year’s Eve.  Stayed at Nisbet Plantation Beach Club – fab.

There was one rainy day, so we traveled over to Golden Rock for lunch, which is a very cool boutique hotel.  All of the pictures with this great orange/red color (like door above) are taken at Golden Rock.  New York artists bought the hotel and completely renovated it.  Now it is teeming with famous guests and chic people.

Our trip was mellow – we played lots of cards (hearts), lounged in the sun, met old friends from Block Island for drinks, read real live books and danced like crazy people a few times.

Prediction – 2019 is going to be amazing.

Starting with resolution #1: I am grateful for this wonderful trip, our great friends that were with us and positive vibes for 2019.

and…. kicking off the New Year in such a pretty place.

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year’s Eve and a great start to 2019!
