juggling

Our little house on Block Island is in need of some improvements. My list is too lofty for this year, but I am going to bite off what I can between now and June so I can drink wine with friends and not worry about it!

The kitchen is getting a new white quartz countertop and a tumbled Carrara marble 3″ x 6″ tile backsplash.  The kitchen is always so dark, it makes me nuts in the summer!

This is the look I am going for.

I am also painting the kitchen a very pale blue-gray to help lighten it. You can’t tell in this picture, but the yellow walls are almost a mustard color – an old Benjamin Moore Historic Color probably meant for an ancient Virginia estate!

This is the new wall color, Farrow and Ball “Borrowed Light.”

I am also recovering 5 pieces of furniture, not the easiest feat on an island… we have already had boats cancelled due to high winds and then couldn’t get a new reservation for our van!

My white couch and club chair will be recovered in this blue ultra suede with a white contrast welt.

I am hoping the blue will last longer than the white upholstery did.  I love white furniture in a summer house, but ours got beaten up with sand, wine, food and dog hair and became not so appealing to sit on!

My (ugly beige) sleeper love seat, matching chair and ottoman…

…will be recovered in this Duralee “Blueberry” with four new Lily Pulitzer pillows.

Bye furniture and hello dirty wood floor. We loaded all the furniture into a van we rented to drop it at an upholstery place on the mainland.

I haven’t heard back from the painters (shocking), but the countertop will be installed on Monday and the marble backsplash two weeks after that.  No idea when I will get the furniture back, hopefully by Easter.  It looks like I might be painting the kitchen by myself!
