Finally Finished

June 11, 2019

Remember back in February when I talked about the Block Island spring projects I wanted to do?

One of them was to reupholster this white couch…

this white club chair…

and this beige sleeper/sectional in our TV room.

Well, I am (finally) FINISHED!

I found a great upholstery person in Rhode Island who did a fabulous job. I went darker with a blue/gray ultrasuede that is easy to clean and is also very soft to sit on – does not get hot in the summer. Or as dirty as the white cotton duck did.

The upholsterer also fixed two of the legs on my couch, so it is as good as new. Rhino is completely in love with the ultrasuede and is draping herself all over it. I had to boot her under the coffee table so I could take these pictures.

I went a little crazy and used ultrasuede on the beige sectional too.

I am very happy with everything. Even if I wasn’t, too bad for me because getting this stuff off the island and back was a giant PAIN.

The sectional got a Duralee “Blueberry” ultrasuede which my daughter Emily immediately called bright purple. Not QUITE  the effect I was looking for!

It is definitely an improvement – along with four new Lily Pulitzer print pillows. The room is so tiny, this little sectional is a perfect fit. My mom bought it in 1978 for her small TV room in their weekend home in Sharon CT.  I took it in 2001 when we bought this house and, since there are no arms, our whole family can drape themselves all over it comfortably. I tried to find something new this fall that would fit this space and have the same effect – no luck. This will definitely tide us over for a while.

I found this white vintage lamp in Palm Beach this winter and the perfect blue shade for this room.

I am obsessed with this lamp AND my new Target bar cart. Aperol spritz on the menu!

We are ready for summer!  I bit off a little more than I probably should have this year. Especially since we put our New York house on the market. I was a drowning in “home” improvement projects this winter and spring. Now, time for a break.

Put the rose on ice!

Looks great! Would love to have the name of your RI upholsterer- if you’re comfortable sharing. So hard to find good people near the island!

I have loved design ever since I painted my bedroom walls high-gloss lime green in the fourth grade. A lifelong hobby, mixing low cost items with a few pricier pieces thrown in, has become The Wry Home. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t!
