Christmas Spirit

by Liz Dowling

This weekend, we went to a party that was the epitome of Christmas Spirit.

It reminded me of the fabulous black & white holiday movies where everyone is elegantly dressed, sipping cold martinis.

Our friends have a sprawling farmhouse in the country that was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Guests were all in black tie and greeted at the door with a custom holiday cocktail.

The evening languidly unrolled with hot passed hors d’ oeuvres, a heavenly dinner and a raucous yankee gift swap.

Then – lights were dimmed, furniture moved and everyone danced until 3:00am.  A true old-fashioned FUN Christmas party.  My husband and I were in full holiday mode when we left the next morning!

I immediately ran out and got some new ornaments…

We got our fat little tree at McArdle’s in Greenwich on the way home.

I pulled out all of our Christmas decorations, including my three new yarn trees,

and my pile of red wooden beads for the tree.

We were too tired to actually decorate the tree, but managed to drag it inside and get the lights on.

A special thanks to our friends who threw an amazing party, reminiscent of old Hollywood.  It got us very excited about Christmas.

I hope this blog post gets you into the Christmas Spirit too!

Merry, Merry…..
